An Echo from Another Place
Soundscape
Recordings from south and north coast of Iceland, six channels in two sets of speakers.
Part of the exhibition "Layers Unraveling" in the Iceland University of the Arts.
Through the black curtains surrounding the room and blue light, Kristín creates a calm space, where visitors are invited to take a seat and spend time. In her sound piece, waves from Reynisfjara in the south and Hjalteyri in the north of Iceland meet – recordings from different places and times. The ocean – its rhythm, colors, shapes –, as well as working with spatial and time-related layers are constant subjects in Kristín’s oeuvre. In a never-ending loop, the waves coast into an imaginary shore.

Um verkið
Í Bergmál af öðrum stað, 2021, bauð ég áhorfendum að dvelja í myrkvuðu rými til að nema vatns- og sjávarhljóð sem ólguðu fram og til baka úr hátölurunum.
Hljóðinnsetningin sameinar tvo landshluta inn í rými, með upptökum af sjávarhljóðum frá hvorum staðsetningum. Áhorfendum VAR boðið að upplifa þessa tvo landshluta í verkinu og skynja sjálft sig samhliða rýminu.
Verkið er afrakstur annsóknarverkefnis sem Kristín vann að í sambandi við hljóðupptökur af vatnshljóðum.
